The practice is no longer offering ear syringing (ear irrigation). Ear syringing will be carried out only when clinically appropriate. Everybody produces a small amount of ear wax and this normally clears by itself. However if your ears feel blocked then application of olive oil usually clears the wax.

If you suspect that you have wax blocking your ears, apply one to two drops of olive oil or almond oil directly into the ear holes. Do this for up to two weeks. You can also gently use cotton wool or tissue paper to try to wick wax out the entrance to your ear. Do not push anything into the ear canal as this can push wax back down into the ear. Over 2 weeks the wax should soften and gradually come away.

If this fails to clear your ears then see a nurse at the practice for further assessment and advice.
