Contraception

Doctors and Nurses provide confidential advice or treatment including:-

  • Teenage Sexual Health matters
  • Contraceptive pill
  • Safe sex
  • IUCDs (coil fitting service)
  • Implanon – Contraceptive implant.
  • Vasectomy
  • Sterilisation
  • Emergency contraception

There is a wealth of useful information available at the Exeter Sexual Health Clinic – including videos about the different types of coil and implant available.  You can visit their website here : https://www.devonsexualhealth.nhs.uk/contraception/

If you have had sex without using contraception or think your contraception might have failed, arrange to see the Doctor or Nurse as quickly as possible. You should do so within 72 hours of unprotected sex. However treatment in the first 24 hours is the most effective. It would be helpful if you tell the receptionist you require emergency contraception so that she can arrange an urgent appointment.

Most pharmacies can dispense the emergency contraceptive pill to women over 16 years of age for a fee, without a Doctor’s prescription. The Walk In Centres and The Contraceptive Clinic also offer this service.

If you are due a review of your contraceptive pill, please complete the form below and email it back to us at slmp@nhs.net.  This is a secure, encrypted email address which is regularly monitored.  There is also some guidance below regarding alternative ways of taking your combined oral contraceptive pill (COCP).
